Getting Around in the UK

Bus

• Buses are a great way to get around cities in the UK, and very handy for travelling into the city centre from a suburb.
• Frequency can vary, but buses travelling into a major city are generally very frequent. Overnight buses often operate until early in the morning.
• Buses must be flagged down at designated bus stops, and you pay the driver when you get on.
• Journey prices vary and some buses will require the exact change for your journey.

Car

• Car rental agencies are available at all UK airports and major cities.
• Driving around the UK is easy thanks to the well-signposted motorway system.
• However, driving within major city centres can prove difficult, and parking can be expensive, so it’s recommended to use public transport when travelling into a city centre.

Train

• It’s easy to get around the UK by train. All major cities have at least one central train station, and many villages have stations to which you can catch a connecting train.
• It’s often quicker to get the train than to drive, as you won’t have the worry of battling traffic, especially during rush hour (generally 6-9am and 5-7pm)!
• Long journeys can be expensive though, so if there’s more than one person travelling it may be cheaper to hire a car
