One of the most exciting things to do in the Algarve is taking a boat trip out to sea to spot wild dolphins! Here are 8 reasons not to miss this fabulous experience:

1. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience

Dolphins are one of our most beloved animals because of their intelligence and playfulness, but not many of us ever get to see one in real life, especially not in their natural environment.

2. You’ll see dolphins in their natural environment

If you want to see dolphins in the ocean – rather than in a marine park or zoo – this is one of the best and safest ways to do it.

3. You’re more likely to see dolphins on an organised cruise

The boat’s captains know exactly where to head for your best chance of seeing the dolphins, so an organised boat trip in the Algarve is definitely your best option rather than going it alone.

4. If you’re lucky they’ll come right up to your boat!

Because they are wild dolphins it might take a while to find them, but when you do, they love to swim close up to the boat and show off for you!

5. You can visit hidden caves & beaches

If you’re lucky and get to see the dolphins fairly soon, your captains will sail into a cave to see a hidden beach that you can only access from the sea!

6. You can take a swim in the ocean

There are life-jackets available so you can take a dip even if you’re not a great swimmer

7. You might even get to drive the boat!

The boats are the same ones that are used by the local Coastguard and Greenpeace – which means they can go pretty fast, but are very comfortable and safe. You can even have a turn in the driver’s seat!

8. It doesn’t matter which resort you’re staying in

A lot of cruises include transport to the marina if you book your tickets in advance, so whether you’re staying in Lagos or Portimao, Albufeira or Vilamoura (or more!) you don’t need to worry about getting to the boat on time.
